Used only once, but I feel better than I have for a year November 12, 2007 anonymous (New England) 101 out of 102 found this review helpful
I have been on synthetic thyroid replacement for 22 years and this pill was an experiment after having read the literature on natural glandular supplementation versus synthetic T4 replacement alone. I've been feeling tired and run down this past year to the point of sitting and doing nothing, but hey I'm a post-menopausal older gal so there are lots of possibilities of why I felt tired. I took this pill with meal yesterday morning. I had had my usual dose of thyroid medication earlier that a.m.
To my great and happy surprise within an hour I began to feel "normal." Normal is something that I term feeling alert and ready to do stuff. In fact, I found myself doing stuff spontaneously without thought -- usually I think about doing things and then do nothing. Sometime later in the day I began to feel jittery so I was thinking that I had overdone the combination of the pill with my usual thyroid medication, but hey, this is wonderful news.
Today is the second day. I was still going good from the first day so I waited until that tired and rundown feeling came over me again and took the pill around noon-time. Once again I am back to "normal."
Now I have no clue as to how this is affecting my body, specifically the thyroid arena, and I hate to mess about with this without a doctor, but having been so tired this year and then finding that this product does something rare and special for me, I give it five stars. However, I think the smart thing for me is to check in with my doctor and make sure she gives her okay before taking this on a steady basis.
Five stars.
Update 12/21/07: It has been over a month and I still feel great on this product!
However, I have had to strictly reduce my intake of synthetic T4 -- with a doctor's help hopefully we will get the dosage right. I have been on T4 supplementation only for 22 years and it took a lose-months-in-tiredness funk for a year to snap me into researching T3. For the week I tried Cytomel with my T4 medication I funked-out again, so that wasn't the answer. This is -- if anyone out there has compared this product to Armour, please let me know.
Update, 1/8/08 - Still a great product, but I have cut back to 1/3 of the capsule and building up T4 synthetic hormone slowly using a two-week trial period. My multitasking ability has increased by 150% from the summer's funk and I can keep working at a high-level of competence until noon, then in afternoon even though energy quality has dropped I can still start and finish simple household errands -- what a luxury to be able to finish things!
So the T4:T3 ratio probably still needs tweaking, and I am going to try out the 98:2 percent suggestion made by Dr. Ken Blanchard in his thyroid book.
It is my opinion that anyone on long-term T4 therapy would have to work hard to get the right balance with this product and T4 supplement. I am still totally thrilled that it is on the market.
Still 5 stars.
Update, 6/13/08: Still 5 stars! However, I did switch off of it, but only because I wanted to get onto a prescription item -- Armour thyroid --that would provide me a small enough grain size to create the 98:2 ratio described in Ken Blanchard's book (see p.51).
At the first signs of spring/allergies I became listless again (after six months of success!) and went back to this Raw Thyroid product -- again perked right up! This product is more than raw thyroid tissue: It is thyroid tissue, adrenal tissue, spleen tissue, kelp and rice bran.
My new regimen is Armour thyroid, synthetic thyroid and Natural Resources Raw Adrenal, probably just for the summer allergy months. I am not 100% every single day, but I can probably get four really good days and then the rest of the week at 80%. This is VERY very good for me for the summer months. I am not on any allergy medication.
Probably the most telling thing I can say is that I have been without a couch funk since November 2007.
Five stars.
Organic Thyroid August 7, 2007 Jayna Dinnyes (Fountain Valley, CA) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
These capsules for low thyroid come from sheep raised organically in New Zealand. They seem to be helping me much more than the synthetic and Armour (from pork) tablets that doctors prescribed for me a number of years ago. They are also quite reasonable. I am almost 60 and can work for long hours because of these and other natural supplements I take.
Thanks!
Raw thyroid is sensational June 14, 2008 A. Bhatia (harker heights, tx) 35 out of 36 found this review helpful
I was bedridden with chronic fatigue and severe pain in my joints and muscles. My weight was rising even though my eating regimen hadn't changed to justify the weight gain.
I felt I was in a constant fog, couldn't think, and felt depressed even though I had nothing to be depressed about.
I remembered when I had surgery a decade ago, my thyroid levels had decreased and the Dr. recommended thyroid supplement. As I was doing some research about the thyroid supplements available I happened upon raw thyroid. After using raw thyroid for 3 days, I felt a noticeable difference in my body, mind, attitude and physical capability. Additionally my mental clarity is improving.
The only recommendation I have is that you take the dosage consistently otherwise you feel the symptoms returning.
I recommend this product to anyone suffering from symptoms of hypothyroidism.
It appears to be working! October 16, 2009 S. Grant (TX) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I did not want to take synthroid as I preferred more natural alternatives and cannot find a doctor as of yet to prescribe naturethroid (which is backordered anyway), so I came across this. I have been taking this for about a month now and really during the first 2 weeks I almost forgot I was taking it along with my vitamins because I did not really notice as much symptoms. What I did notice was that I had an immediate alertness/energy level after taking it. It is in the last two weeks that it finally dawned on me that I was not having the same symptoms or perhaps as severe as before, however I did notice every once in awhile I had dry itching skin so it made me question whether it was working or not. But then I started adding a 2nd pill for just one day about every 2-3 days whenever I noticed any symptoms (usually around lunchtime) like the dry skin and I noticed that I felt great for a few days. I must mentioned though that I heard you are suppose to take your thyroid treatments consistently at the same time of the day and with (or without food) and I do take my pill in the morning after eating but because I didn't want to overdose (maybe) I started testing this past couple of weeks with taking a 2nd pill every few days around lunchtime only if I feel the need for taking it. I think everyone is different and should test what is right for them.
Well today I went on a group lunch and decided to have a low fat dish with rice and vegetables. When my plate came I saw that I had mostly broccoli, which is suppose to be a no-no for people with thyroid problems, but I thought it was steamed so it should be good. Not! Apparently it was not as cooked as I thought (they were still somewhat crunchy but I was hungry and talking too much to pay attention) because later I started having the same symptoms as before I started taking the Raw Thyroid... like neck pain/discomfort, joint pains and dry itching skin so I came home and took a 2nd one of these pills. But what this made me realize was that the Raw Thyroid had been helping because I have not felt like today in over a month.
I would like to mentioned that I have been actively working to rid myself of products with Soy (I cannot believe how much foods have Soy and how hard it is to find foods without it, such as Cereals with high fiber and protein) and I really had not had any broccoli (till today), spinach, etc., (though these are suppose to be okay if properly cooked) because I read where these foods work as an anti-thyroid, where it stops your medication or alternate treatments from working. Prior to taking Raw Thyroid I did actually experience a frequent amount of hot flashes (of course I thought had peri-menopause all along and that the hot flashes were just worse) because I was drinking Soy Protein and then I tried something else that had a higher dosage which made me have even worse symptoms, once I stopped Soy....no more hot flashes!
So I believe it has to be a combination of trying not to eat the anti-thyroid foods, exercising 5-6 times a week (as I don't really get tired at all when I do this, especially weight bearing), changing eating habits and eating more frequently (every 2-3 hrs) to elevate my metabolic rate (in which I have lost weight...yea!), doing routine colon and liver (which affects the metabolic rate) cleanse and taking Raw Thyroid that has really benefited me this past 5 weeks, not perfectly but definitely a huge and noticeable difference. I will be stocking up and look forward to taking my lab tests again (giving it 3 months) to see how they come out.
It works October 22, 2009 WolfMama (Florida) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I've been through several bottles of Raw Thyroid, one I bought from Amazon in Feb of 2009 and the others I bought somewhere else. It definitely helps. I'm not a placebo person. And It took about a week to feel the results but after that it was good. I won't say the difference was dramatic because I still had bad days, but not often. I'm still experimenting with the dosage and how many times a day to take it. It DOES help with the fuzzy thoughts and the overall sluggish feeling.
I'm giving this item 5 stars because it worked at all, when the medical establishment would have you believe that these things DON"T work. I beg to differ.
This is the first supplement like this one that I've ever tried and I'll be purchasing single ingredient supplements that match the stuff in Raw Thyroid and mixing and matching dosages until I get it exactly right.
But yeah, this does work and fairly well too. It hasn't solve all my problems but it nade a marked difference in how I feIt. This product is not a waste of your time or money.
